Quantum Monte Carlo calculation of the binding energy of bilayer graphene.
We report diffusion quantum Monte Carlo calculations of the interlayer binding energy of bilayer graphene. We find the binding energies of the AA-and AB-stacked structures at the equilibrium separation to be 11.5(9) and 17.7(9) meV/atom, respectively. The out-of-plane zone-center optical phonon frequency predicted by our binding-energy curve is consistent with available experimental results. A...
متن کاملA quantum Monte Carlo calculation of the ground state energy of the hydrogen molecule
We have calculated the ground state energy of the hydrogen molecule using the quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) method of solving the Schrodinger equation, without the use of the Born-Oppenheimer or any other adiabatic approximations. The wave function sampling was carried out in the full 12-dimensional configuration space of the four particles (two electrons and two protons). Two different methods wer...
متن کاملQuantum Monte Carlo calculation of Compton profiles of solid lithium
Recent high-resolution Compton scattering experiments in lithium have shown significant discrepancies with conventional band theoretical results. We present a pseudopotential quantum Monte Carlo study of electronelectron and electron-ion correlation effects on the momentum distribution of lithium. We compute the correlation correction to the valence Compton profiles obtained within Kohn-Sham de...
متن کاملQuantum Monte Carlo Calculation for the neutron-rich Ca isotopes
We computed ground-state energies of calcium isotopes from Ca to Ca by means of the Auxiliary Field Diffusion Monte Carlo (AFDMC) method. Calculations were performed by replacing the Ca core with a mean-field self consistent potential computed using Skyrme interaction. The energy of the external neutrons is calculated by projecting the ground-state from a wave function built with the single par...
متن کاملQuantum Monte Carlo calculations of the dimerization energy of borane.
Accurate thermodynamic data are required to improve the performance of chemical hydrides that are potential hydrogen storage materials. Boron compounds are among the most interesting candidates. However, different experimental measurements of the borane dimerization energy resulted in a rather wide range (-34.3 to -39.1) ± 2 kcal/mol. Diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC) simulations usually recover more...
